The World Cup - Social Science Classroom Activities

In the FIFA World Cup takes place in Russia, with the whole world watching. But are all
the 32 countries playing against each other in the World Cup equal?

As you know the world itself running behind this football now. Can’t we use this world cup spirit in to our subject and academic spirit. Definitely we can. It can encourage participatory, investigative and collaborative teaching and learning styles.

In geography it may help them to familiarize Locational knowledge; map and data analysis skills; and understanding of the geographical similarities and differences between places.

Here we would like to suggest some task which can be done in our Social Science class room.

1. Giving a speech in class assembly.
Let students say about their favorite team.
They have to connect the information connect with History, Politics, geography,
economy of the mentioned country.
2.. Brief talk on the players.

3. Small flags can be displayed in our soft board.
Let students familiar with flags and countries.

4. Ask learners where the World Cup will be taking place in 2018 (Russia)
A brief history about Russian revolution – Grade 9 topic

5. Predicting the result of plays every day.

6. Thinking about maps
Where are the “richest” countries?
Where are the countries with the highest FIFA rankings?
What do you think might be the reasons for the differences between countries?
