Teacher class observation

Class observations of teaching can be extremely effective in helping to enhance teaching performance. It offers the opportunity for faculty to improve and correct themselves.
The observation’s purpose will be to provide feedback on teaching practices and to suggest ways to improve those practices, if appropriate. Any information gathered through the classroom observation process is confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than enhancement of teaching: all information stays between the observer and the teacher being observed.
So we need to ask some questions ourselves.
They are following.

  • Why we are observing ?
  • Are you ready for observing ?
  • Why we need ?

Class observation is like a mirror  (Eg: Our Principal Mr. Sanjeev quoted ) . It reflect ourselves. Otherwise students may be observed all faults. So it is somewhat like dressing up.
A teacher observer mainly focus five major elements.
They are Attitudes, Presentation, Teaching aids, Communication and Level of the class.
We can go very detail.
What are the things comes under each elements

Attitudes
  • Whether you are self motivated ?
  • Are you really involved in your lesson ?
  • Confidence – Are you ready to face your students ? And their questions ?
  • Personality -
      Students are the best judges.
  • Dealings – How you are good in dealing with students? How do you approach the students when they irritates you?

Presentation
How do you present the content ?
  • Lecturing
  • Interaction
  • Activities
  • Questions
  • Correlations- Relating the topic with life style. E H Car “ What is history ?

  • Whiteboard
    How to use white board effectively ?
  • Text book
  • Models
  • Audio Visual tools

Communication

  • Fluency
  • Accent
  • Gestures + Eye contact
  • Emphasis / Giving Stress

Level of the class
  • Subject Knowledge
  • HOT – High Order Thinking
  • Extra information
  • Creativity interest.
  • Dynamic / Energetic
