REPORT: PD SESSION BY INTERNAL RESOURCE PERSONS

All SST Faculty members from Habitat group of schools.


Introduction
An effective professional development plan was arranged by Habitat School management right after the winter break from January 2nd to 6th . On 3rd  M.rAkbar Ali, Social Science HOD, HBT school were assigned to take a sessions for all the faculty members of HBT group of schools .The session started with an introductory speech by Mr. Stanly Lazar, Social Science HOD, IIS HBT. The introduction was emphasized on the topic “ Recent trends in Education”. It took half an hour and laid emphasis on the forth coming ministry inspection scheduled to be held in each schools in Ajman and focused on the parameters and requirements of the ministry.

After the introductory session Mr. Ramachandran dwelt on the topic “ Innovative approach in teaching Social Science”. The Main content included the following:
  • Effective teaching in 40 minutes.
  • What does KHDA stand for
  • Departmental Action Plan.
  • Differentiated lesson Plan.
  • Class room teaching.
  • Cross curricular links.
  • Important documents for inspection.
KHDA Inspection
He gave a brief description about what is KHDA ,what does it stand for and how does it affect us.
Departmental Action Plan
  • He explained about what is departmental action plan with the help of ICT showing detailed table containing the requirements to be included in the action plan. Following points were high lighted :
  • It should be innovative
  • Curriculum friendly
  • should keep an over view of the effectiveness of school improvement strategies.
Lesson Plan
Using ICT what important points to be incorporated into a lesson plan was explained in detail. The high lighted points are the following:
  • Should be differentiated
  • Child centered
  • Mention cross curricular link.
  • Innovative and creative
  • Hard copy to submit to the inspector
  • teaching to be limited to 20 minutes.
Differentiate Lesson objectives
He taught with the example quoting from class VI portion with the title, Earth on solar system . There he mentioned lesson objectives, with differentiated objectives for 1. All the students 2. most of the students and 3. some of the students.
Activity was also included in the lesson plan with differentiation for Low, Middle and High achievers.
Special mention was made on how teaching can be linked with other subjects ( cross curricular links) like History, literature, and then with real life situations and integrations.
Classroom Teaching
Following points were emphasized :
  • Start and end the class in time.
  • Write learning objectives on the board.
  • Keep the printed LP on the table.
  • Use ICT
  • Make group wise seating arrangement.
  • SEND students accommodation
  • Use last 20 minutes for assessment.

EFFECTIVE WAY IN DELIVERING THE CONTENT
The second session was taken by Mr. Akbar Ali,HOD of Social Science , HBT. The session was very informative and useful for SSC teachers as it focused on the use of ICT in teaching social science. Since many of the teachers were unaware of the latest updates in software and other informative applications , the topic was very relevant and most useful for all the teachers who attended it.
The Objectives of the Session
  • Achieve advanced ICT skills to teach social science.
  • Create interest towards the subject
  • Promote activity based teaching
  • Promote collaborative learning
  • Use effective and innovative method of class room management.

Blooms Taxonomy
  • Applying involves using acquired skills like creating, designing, developing codes and wiki.
The above principle was explained with the help of a picture showing Blooms taxonomy. It was focused that the taxonomy to be used effectively in taking the students to higher levels of thinking from application level on wards.

Explained and shown through the ICT how these software could be installed and used effectively to teach geography to locate places on the globe, find distances between two places. These will supplement taking physical materials like maps, globes inside the class room by the teachers.
Altogether the two sessions were highly informative and useful for the teachers.
















Conclusion and Vote thanks
The session was winded up at 1.30pm with concluding remark of Mr.Stanly Lazar, HOD Social science, HBT IIS and vote of thanks by Mrs. Saraswathy, a senior teacher from HBT school.
